Steel, by BOS process
![]() | Basic Oxygen Steelmaking (BOS) process produces steel from molten iron (pig iron), scrap iron, oxygen, energy, and additives, such as lime. Besides the steel, the BOS process produces gases such as CO, CO2, particulate matter (0.005 lb per lb of steel), as well as slag (about 0.1 lb per lb of steel), and other pollutants. The BOS plants use, in average, about 30% of recycled steel, and 70% of newly produced iron. | |||||||
